Prepping the activity:
You will need:
- Printer
- Laminator
- Velcro Dots
- Scissors / Paper cutter
First, print out the sorting mats and sorting cards. Print onto cardstock and laminate for durability. Then, cut apart the sorting mats, as well as the color sorting cards.
*If you would like to use these more as worksheets, skip the laminating. Children can glue the sorting cards in place instead.
If you would like to make the mats more durable and prevent the pieces from sliding around you can consider attaching a velcro dot on the back of each sorting card. You can then attach the other part of the dot onto the sorting mat. This will also make it easier to store the sorting cards right on the mats and help prevent losing any of the pieces.
I personally keep these mats stored on binder rings on my shelf with all the sorting cards attached to the sorting mats.

What is in the Color Sorting Worksheets/Mats printable:
The printable contains the mats for the following 11 colors:
- Blue
- Black
- Brown
- Grey
- Yellow
- Red
- Pink
- Green
- Purple
- White
- Orange
There are a total of 11 sorting mats, as well as 6 sorting cards for each color, making a total of 66 color cards.

How to Use the Color Sorting Worksheets/Mats
Keep the sorting mats in one pile and the color cards in another. To play, students pick a color card and place it on the matching color mat. This simple activity helps develop critical thinking and color recognition skills in a fun and engaging way. (Remember, you can have children glue them into place if you decided to go the worksheet routine instead of the laminate mat route.)

If your early learners are just beginning to identify colors, start with one or two mats to avoid overwhelming them. Gradually introduce more mats as their color recognition improves. Eventually, they will be able to handle all 11 mats at once, enhancing their sorting skills and color identification.

These color sorting worksheets/mats are perfect for independent practice and can be used multiple times throughout the school year. They also serve as a great resource for various subjects, including social studies, language development, and physical education. Additionally, they support early intervention and special education needs.
